Diana Chan is a 31 year-old accountant by profession who grew up in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and moved to Melbourne, Australia to pursue her tertiary education at the age of 19. Diana loved cooking from a very young age and she learnt a lot through both her parents, but it was only when she moved to Melbourne that her interest grew as she discovered the farmers’ markets that supplied plenty of fresh and local produce from around Australia. She developed her own cooking style, which combined some of the hallmarks of her parents’ styles – her mother’s fresh, herb-driven approach and her father’s love of seafood.
Diana decided that after 4 years of working in Deloitte, she wanted to pursue her passion of making a career out of food and went on to compete in MasterChef Australia’s 9th season. A decision which has changed her life and cemented her determination to embrace food as much as possible. Diana became the seasons’ champion and has an army of fans who love her style, passion and honesty.
Diana’s popularity and poise on MasterChef Australia has sparked interest in some fantastic Ambassadorship and Sponsorship roles both in Australia and Malaysia. She is an ambassador for Makmur Enterprises and in August 2018, her new range of frozen dumplings will hit the shelves in Woolworths supermarkets nationally and in Coles supermarket in October 2018. Diana is a Delicious Magazine contributor and writes for the Age Weekly Review every fortnight.
Diana has started her own fresh casual concept, Chanteen. Serving Malaysian street food and all about scratch cooking using family recipes passed down through generations. Chanteen started as a pop up restaurant which ran for 6 months at HWKR in Melbourne CBD beginning February 2018. She has locked in some commercial deals partnering with The Good Food Month hosted by Fairfax Media for the Night Noodle Markets held in Sydney in October 2018 and in Melbourne in November 2018. She is still planning on her expansion of Chanteen.
Diana is currently filming a new food and travel showcasing everything about Asian cuisine. Production is still in the planning stages and more information will be revealed soon. She is seeking major partners who express an interest to be involved.
Diana has been involved in many public appearances including media appearances and interviews on TV, radio and print here in Australia and internationally. She has worked with major developers such as UEM Sunrise and EcoWorld International and Beulah International both in Australia and internationally. Diana’s warmth and charm on Masterchef Australia has led to a number of great partnerships and opportunities and she has been approached by a number of big brands in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. She has partnered with Malaysia Airlines and gets involved in the menu design as well as creating signature dishes on all First and Business Class flights from selected routes. Her first menu was on board in the December 2017 quarter.
Diana loves to travel and has worked on many engagements involving menu designs and cooking demonstrations overseas including India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. She is also set to work on creating a menu for the first ever Masterchef restaurant in Dubai launching in 2019.
Diana has partnered with A&E Network and Lifetime Asia on some video content in both Malaysia and Singapore filming video cooking tutorials with food brands such as Nestle and Lurpak as well as digital content for SIngtel, DBS Bank and St Regis Hotel Group.
Diana loves giving back to the community and works closely with a few nominated charities including Beyond Blue, Oz Harvest and Opportunity Australia through fundraising events to raise much needed funds. Diana was involved in the CEO Cook Off Event for Oz Harvest in March 2018 where they raised over $2 million in one night providing 4 million meals to those in need. Her love for travel has been inspirational in her food style and she continues to be inspired every time she travels. Diana is currently researching recipes for a new cook book.
