Georgia Barnes is a cook, nutritionist and educator from sunny Queensland. Determined to inspire everyday people to cook from scratch and to see the beauty in real food, Georgia kick-started her career in the industry after placing runner-up on MasterChef Australia in 2015. Known throughout the series for her creative-flair, beautiful baking and plating skills, Georgia’s warm and bubbly persona made her a household favourite. With a balanced approach to diet and lifestyle she believes you can have your cake and eat it too, as long as it’s made from wholesome ingredients.
Growing up with her grandmother as her role model in the kitchen, home-cooking has always been an integral part of Georgia’s life. Born and bred in Brisbane’s bayside, Georgia has always loved the outdoors and spent quality time with her family gardening in the veggie patch, camping and fishing in Moreton Bay and learning about the holistic origin of food. This childhood fascination motivated her to complete a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition, which led to a career in the health and wellness industry as a qualified nutritionist. It was here that she began writing recipes and conducting workshops to support her client’s needs as she discovered how she could make a difference.
Since her television debut, Georgia has gained a wealth of experience and is fortunate to wear many hats, but at the heart of everything she does, she is most passionate about keeping the art of home-cooking alive and instilling kitchen-confidence in people of all ages. Inspired by all things fresh and simple, Georgia’s presenting style is relaxed, fun and informative, always emphasising the importance of sourcing seasonal produce and how easy it is to grow your own!
By combining her culinary skills and nutritional knowledge, Georgia designs and hosts interactive classes, teaching approachable methods for creating healthy, contemporary dishes. After relocating to the Gold Coast, Georgia partnered with The Kitchens Robina Town Centre in 2018 and has been running monthly masterclasses covering a wide variety of topics and techniques. She is also one of the resident chefs at Eden Health Retreat, a hidden sanctuary and five star health resort located in the Currumbin Valley. Georgia not only executes her creativity in the kitchen by preparing vibrant, wholefood-based meals, she also conducts weekly nutritional talks and cooking demonstrations for the guests.
Georgia has been a contributor for Taste.com.au since 2015, writing recipes for both the magazine and website. Skilled in food styling and photography, Georgia also provides stunning imagery and recipes for her clients and her online community of followers.
Georgia has partnered and collaborated with brands such as Pyrex, Ikea, Cadbury, Endeavour College of Natural Health, Bright-r Natural Gas, Queen Vanilla, Redlands Coast, VegePod, Barilla, TK Maxx, Frico Cheese, Angostura House of Bitters.
