Kelvin Cheung

Born in Canada, raised in Chicago and now based in Mumbai, Kelvin is a Chinese-Canadian who grew up in the kitchen.

Kelvin is Chef and F&B Director for the modern seafood – forward Bastian, easy going cocktail-forward One Street that serves elevated American comfort food, and Whole and then Some, a takeaway kitchen that provides customised, nutritionally dense meals.

A third generation chef, Kelvin;s first job was in his father’s kitchen as a 12-year-old where he did ‘practically everything’. With humble beginnings as a dishwasher, he worked his way up until he was the man in charge, learning exceptional technique and mastering family recipes along the way.

Kelvin’s culinary style draws inspiration from his Chinese heritage, his North American upbringing and his French training. His dishes are known for their fresh, high-quality ingredients and the use of as much local produce as possible.

Kelvin approaches his professional and culinary life with humour and burning passion. He loves sharing the knowledge of food and cooking, and has appeared as a guest chef on Masters of Taste with Gary Mehigan (Fox India), and  as host of You Got Chef’d (Gobble) and Secret Ingredient (Michelin India in partnership with Top Gear).

Kelvin has cooked got the Prime Minister of Canada, Justine Trudeau, and won Conde Nast Traveller’s Top Restaurant Award for Bastian in 2018 and 2017. He has featured in GQ, Vogue and Conde Nast Traveller and Grazia, and works with a variety of food, beverage and lifestyle brands including Jamieson, BMW, Monkey 47, Nike and Adidas.
